Direct School Admission

Edward,

I really admire your passion in basketball. You can play before your class starts, during recession time and after school. You can skip your snack even though you like to eat, and all these just for basketball. I know you are dreaming to be part of a school team but unfortunately your school is not focusing on basketball. Hence, you do not have a good coach to guide you along and all these years, you are learning your basketball skill from uncle Teo and the internet.

As a mother, I would like to help you to fulfill you dream but at the same time I would not like to see you neglect your studies. So I wrote an email to Chung Cheng High (Main) to "sell" you and trying to convince them to accept you through DSA.

Daddy commented that my email is mushy and he will not write such email. I manage to prove him wrong that giving up is not a way out. I will be more acceptances if they reject me if I have tried my best.

I am floating in the air after received a call from Chung Cheng High. Ms Chan asked me to bring you to her school for a trial and interview. You & I was very stress and excited before we meet them as we do not know what we will expect.

I put on a strong and firm front and walked into the school with you. You are shy but you are willing to go with me because you love playing basketball with Secondary school students and you want to know where your standard is.

The teachers emphasis the vision of the school and 1 thing I like most is they are not only making use of you to win medals for them. They are very concern on your academic results as well as your behavior. And guts feeling are telling me that I have found a good school for you.

The basketball coach is a tough guy; he appears to be straight forward and serious in his coaching. He taught you a few strategies even though it is the 1st time you met him. You told me you like the coach very much and you are not afraid that he is fierce. "Wei jiao lian" stress again to me that he will scold student loudly if they dun do well and want me to accept his ways of coaching. I can see his passion in teaching and your passion in learning in basketball. So I foresee you 2 will be a good match.

Edward, I hope you will become a good person, not only excellent in your studies but also good in character and behavior. And I hope you can become a basketball star player for Singapore since you love basketball so much. I know you are just like me during my young time, and that's why I encourage you to go all the way to make it successful.

Son, I love you more than anything else. And I am willing to sacrifice my happiness in order to make you happy. I do not expect you to earn a lot of money to feed me when I am old. I just want to see you to become a good man and able to survive independently. I will not be with you all the times and you have to select your type of life. Mom will always support you from behind.

All the best to your PSLE this coming October....and I know you will make it. Just put in more effort and be more focus.....

Always Love you
Mom
