Stressful moment

This day has finally come……

After putting in so much effort and spent so much time on revision, the most stressful moment has started with effective today.

Today is my son - Edward’s first day of his PSLE exam……….English……

Alarm clock started to ring at 5.45am this morning; I woke up and walked to the bathroom with both eyes closing. After a quick bath, I warm up the Chicken Essence - one of the essential items in his breakfast before every exam.

We leave our house at 6.30am and headed for our breakfast before sending Edward to school. Along the way, I reminded him to stay cool and check through his paper before passing up to the teacher. I feel that I am more stress than him, as this exam is very important to him for his recognition to his Secondary school education.

I pray hard for his exam and wish him all the best.

I would like to share his English composition that he has submitted for his PSLE today….

Qns : It was recess. You were heading towards the teacher’s staffroom. You heard sounds of sobbing,
-who did you see sobbing
-what did you do
-what happened in the end

“Ring! Ring!” the bell that meant it was recess rang throughout the whole school. Soon, the canteen that was empty had been filled with hordes of hungry students yearning for a break from their studies. I was among those students that were rushing to the canteen, but I was stopped as I was about to move. “Jake, meet me in the teacher’s staffroom. I have things to tell you.” It was my form teacher, Mrs Lau. She then descended down the stairs and headed to the staffroom. I too made my move but soon stopped in my tracks as I heard soft sobbing a stone’s throw away. Along the corridor, in a secluded corner, hid a girl whom I soon realised was my classmate and best friend, Austina. I quickly went over to console her and to find out what had happened. “The three bullies from our class cornered me on my way to the canteen. They look lecherous and wanted to take advantage of me! But I managed to break free of their grasp and came here to hide.” Austina said while sobbing. I was very angry when I heard her. “Those three…how can they do this! And in school too! I must say they have guts but they have tarnished our reputation as boys! I’ll take you to the principal’s office immediately!”
I brought Austina to the principal’s office. The principal could not believe what happened but after looking at Austina, he was convinced. “I shan’t punish them like any other principals do, I have an idea. Jake, could you please call the boys here?” he said. Although I did not know what the principal had up his sleeve, I nevertheless obeyed. Finding the three was easy. But upon seeing them, my anger raged like wildfire! I wanted to lunge at their throats but I restraint myself from being consumed by my anger. They had not seen me, which was my advantage. I picked up a pebble and with the force given to me by my anger, I flung I it at them. The pebble hit point blank on one of the boys’ shoulder and he winced in pain, but soon regained momentum. They looked at me with killer eyes and a menacing smirk and ran towards me.
I ran as if my life depended on it but I was caught by one of them. They were about to give me the beating of my life when the most powerful man in the school approached.
The menacing expression the three had turned into those of scared puppies. “So, it’s not enough that you bullied a girl, now you are ganging up on a weak boy? Come to my office.” The principal said. His words were like spells and the three followed. “Since you like girls so much, you shall each wear a pinafore and a blouse throughout the whole term!” the principal boomed while giving each boy a pinafore and blouse. The fact of the punishment had scared the wits out of the boys, not to mention having to wear the clothes throughout the whole term.
I went to the staffroom and briefly explained the incident to Mrs Lau. She praised me yet chided me for not informing her first hand. She decided to say what she wanted to tell me another day. It was rumoured that it was regarding my exams. I was not in favour of the punishment but I know this lesson will be burned in the three boys’ memories in time to come.
